Guidance and Support When You Need It Most

Even with the most meticulously maintained vehicles, unexpected situations like a breakdown or an accident can occur. At Midhire, your safety is our highest priority. This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions on what to do in such an event. Knowing the correct procedure will help you stay safe, meet legal requirements, and ensure you get the support you need as quickly as possible.

In Case of a Breakdown

All our vehicles are covered by roadside breakdown assistance. If you experience a mechanical issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Ensure Your Safety: Pull over to a safe location as soon as you can, away from moving traffic. If on a motorway, use the hard shoulder and exit the vehicle from the left-hand side, waiting behind the safety barrier. Switch on your hazard warning lights.
  2. Contact Breakdown Assistance: Find the dedicated breakdown number located on the vehicle’s keyring. Call them and provide your location, vehicle registration number, and a description of the problem.
  3. Inform Us: Once you have arranged for assistance, please also contact our office to let us know about the situation. This helps us prepare for any necessary follow-up actions, such as arranging a replacement vehicle.

In Case of an Accident

Being in an accident can be stressful. Staying calm and following a clear procedure is crucial.

Immediate Steps at the Scene:

  1. Stop the Vehicle: Stop immediately in a safe place. Turn off the engine and switch on your hazard lights.
  2. Check for Injuries: Check if anyone is injured. If there are injuries, call the police and an ambulance on 999.
  3. Exchange Details: You must exchange details with the other party. This includes names, addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers, and insurance company details. Do not admit liability at the scene.
  4. Gather Evidence: If it is safe to do so, take photos of the accident scene, the position of the vehicles, and any damage sustained. Note the time, date, weather conditions, and any witness contact details.
  5. Notify Midhire: Contact us as soon as possible to report the incident. We will guide you through the next steps and require you to complete an Accident Report Form for our insurers.
In Case of an Accident

Damage to tyres and wheels is not covered by the standard insurance or breakdown policy. You are responsible for the cost of repair or replacement. Our breakdown service may be able to assist with changing the wheel, but the repair costs will be chargeable.

The standard breakdown cover is for mechanical failure. It does not cover incidents caused by driver error, such as running out of fuel, locking keys in the car, or putting the wrong fuel in the vehicle. A call-out fee will apply in these situations.

Your insurance excess (as stated in your rental agreement) will be charged following any accident. This will be refunded to you if we successfully recover the full cost of the incident from a liable third party.
